The race for a new generation tablet PC seems to be heating up. Everyone has been waiting to see if Apple’s rumored offering, The recently announced Archos Android based tablet, or the Tech Crunch’s Crunchpad will be first to market, but today on Gizmodo I saw a sneak peek at a Microsoft tablet that is rumored to be in the late testing phase. See the video below.

Unlike the Apple I touch style pad, and the Crunchpad, The Microsoft Courier is actually a booklet, using 2 small 7 inch screens that are touch and styles sensitive. The Apple tablet is rumored to be on hold until February as Steve Jobs is taking personal charge to make sure that everything is just right with it.

The Apple will, of course, come at a higher price – rumored to be between $799 and $999 when it hits the street. According to reports from PC World it is will have a 9.6 inch touch screen display, and will run on the HSDPA 3g network that is used by AT&T and T-Mobil here in the US.

The Crunchpad is slated to be released in November, but Tech Crunch and their partners at Fusion Garage have been strangely quiet about their progress. The Crunchpad is rumored to have a 12 inch screen, but will have no or limited storage since it’s focused is cloud based computing.

With all of these players racing to be the first, my only question is will this make the net books a thing of the past?
